Hyperlocal Internet Retailing in India
« on: March 13, 2016, 08:26:43 AM »
Given issues with India’s infrastructure adequacy, hyperlocal companies are presented with an opportunity to add significant value in the logistics and supply chain capabilities. These companies act as e-commerce facilitators (like UrbanClap and Grofers) for offline channels to address online needs. Under the hyperlocal platform, both inventory and marketplace models exist, however in our view purely marketplace models have lesser room to succeed as unit economics for delivery only model are challenging (Rs. 15-20 per order cannot offset costs).

As a result, companies in the segment like Justdial (facing intense vertical competition) and Grofers (shut operations in 9 cities) are facing challenges. Some food-tech companies like Fassos are also catering in this segment. BigBasket (On-demand platform to deliver items like groceries, beverages, personal care etc. Primarily sources and maintains its own)

UrbanClap - Helps find and hire right service professionals for home and local services. It competes with players such as Taskbob and LocalOye.
