From Today Dec-01-2013, the RBI of India has mandated
all consumers need to enter PIN for their ATM / Debit Card Transactions at the Point of Sale ( PoS) terminals to bring down the level of fraud prevailing in the Indian Card Industry,
- At the time of payment, the merchant swipes/inserts your Debit Card into a PIN enabled Point of Sale (POS) machine
- The merchant then enters the transaction amount
- The POS machine prompts for a PIN to be entered by you
- You enter your Debit Card ATM PIN in the POS machine and complete the transaction
Safety Tips for ATM / debit Card Customers- Do not share your Debit Card ATM PIN with anyone, including the merchant. You should always insist on entering the PIN yourself.
- Use your hand or body to shield your PIN from onlookers when you are entering the PIN
- Keep your Debit Card in sight during any transaction, especially at restaurants and fuel stations
- Remember to take your Debit Card back when the transaction is complete and ensure that it is your Debit Card only
