Hi
SBI bank contacted me in March 2016 claiming that there is a pending credit card payment on my name with due of Rs 1,35,000 and the card actually belongs to year 2005 . However the actual credit limit on the card was Rs 20,000 which means the additional 1,15,000 was penalties , interest etc. The status in CIBIL as of today is “written-off” and bank offered me to pay Rs 35,000 promising that they would clear the CIBIL status from “writen-off” to “NIL” . ( I agreed to pay the principle amount if the CIBIL status were to be cleared but the bank didn’t agreed with that )
[ WE CAN CONFIRM THAT ON RECIEPTOF THE AFORESAID AMOUNT , YOUR SBI CARD AMOUNT WILL BE CLOSED WITH US WITH ZERO BALANCE OUTSTANDING ON YOUR ACCOUNT. FURTHER, ON CIBIL RECORDS, YOUR BALANCE OUTSTANDING WOULD BE UPDATED AS “NIL” AND “WRITTEN-OFF” STATUS ON YOUR SBI CARD ACCOUNT WOULD BE REMOVED ]
I don’t remember that I have ever used this card but don’t want to take a chance and have my credit history clear.
Will making the payment and changing the status from “written-off” to “NIL” help build my credit history . Is there a possibility that BANKs can go back from their commitment and NOT clear the CIBIL status.
Please advice
Thanks
Sharath
