Credit Card Default notification.
« on: August 12, 2011, 01:38:47 PM »
I made purchases worth 43000 in 2002 using citibank card. After that I moved overseas for owrk but only to learn that i have been cheated by the agent and  it was real struggle for next 5 years. It only recently that My life has started getting back on track. Last month I got a noticication on my email saying that total due is 1,000,000 now. They have sent a notification that leagal action has been innitiated. I checked with my folks back in India and they say they have not received any notification. While browsing through the email I also received an email in August 2008 which stated that total outstanding on my card is 43,000. Excerpts from the email is below.
We wish to confirm the following on your account:

1.You have not made any payments since 3/20/2002.

2.Your account has been declared a non-performing asset.

3.You have not corresponded with the bank towards
curing your account.

4.As on date the outstanding on your card stands
at Rs.46329.7.

I intend to clear of this debt but no way I can pay them 1 million to settle the debt.
Please advise. Also now I hold foreign nationality.

Thanks for the Link.
I just got a citibank card, even though I have not settled my previous balance so does that mean that they have written off the debt. Also checked with CIBIL and it also shows clean record. I guess starting this issue again will just stir the hornest nest. So i decided to let it rest.
Anyways thanks
