Hi,
My wife had a salary account and linked credit card (limit Rs. 15k) with HDFC bank in 2004. In 2005, she quit the company she was working for and requested that all her accounts are closed. After some delays, her account was closed. Today she got a call from HDFC bank stating that she has over 1.1 lakh due on her credit card. Unfortunately, the only documentation still available to her is an email regarding the delays in her account closure, not the final closure of the card.
What should she do now?

What is not clear is how 1.1 Lakh has been accumulated into the account ? Why don't you demand for the statement and then see what is the real issue ? Just don't panic. Request a Statement how this amount has been accumulated. Contact the Banking ombudsman listed in the branch of the bank.
