Clearing the cards
« on: October 23, 2014, 10:57:21 PM »
Hello..
I have 6 credit cards. Its a mess to be frank. I have been in their credit trap for years now, paying minimum due and lots of interest and all. Lately i was able to completely pay off 4 cards.

The cards:
Citi 1 (ioc card, free of charge) - paying minimum due
Citi 2 (shoppers stop card, free of charge) - paying minimum due
SBI (rs 750 annual charge) - paid complete amount
HDFC (free of charge) - paid complete amount
Kotak (pvr card, free of charge) - paid complete amount
Standard Chartered (free of charge) - paid complete amount

Now i need to know what should i do with the cards.
Should i cancel the cards i paid off?
Should i keep the cards or maybe cancel the sbi one as it has annual charge?

Any other suggestion.

Credit Cards are Unsecured Debt and Too Many of them Will Damage Your Credit rating.

1. You have to maintain the two cards on which you have Balance yet to be Paid.
2. Do not Close the Card Which is the Oldest as this adds to Credit Score.
3. At the max carry two Credit Cards and don't forget to pay in full every month.

Close the Remaining.

The HDFC is the oldest.. 6 yrs. Rest all are 2 to 4 yrs old. So should i keep the HDFC and the Standard Chartered cards? Close the rest. What if this brings my cibil score down. Should it matter?
